I was on summer vacation for only a short time and whoops… I missed some really big developments at Automic!
To be more precise: There were 3 important events.
1. The CA Automation Summit
First of all there is the “CA Automation Summit”. That’s the name of what used to be called “Automic World” and in the very early days “UC4 Innovate” – but we’ve gotten used to new names for familiar things at Automic, haven’t we?
This annual user conference took place in Frankfurt (Main) this year – and unfortunately I missed it. Due to sun, beach, and sea. Life is tough, sometimes.
If you have missed the event, too, you can at least watch the keynotes online.
If I’m beeing honest, I have to admit that I prefer being on a summer vacation to the user conference. Nevertheless, I think it’s a pity that I could not be there.
Especially since a new version has been presented: the V12.2.
2. Automic Version 12.2
And that’s the second event that happened during my vacation: the presentation of Automic V12.2.
The V12.2 contains many changes we were all waiting for:
- AWI improvements
- Enhancements to Analytics and the AE Rest API
- Support of an open source DB for AE – PostgreSQL
- Critical Path display and analysis
- Direct connection of the AE to a version control system (GIT) to check objects in and out
And that’s just some of the many new features in V12.2.
As always, I will of course write some more detailed articles about the V12.2!
3. The Big Surprise
The two events mentioned above were of course announced a some time ago and therefore I was not surprised that they happened exactly in my absence.
But there was also a third event and that really took me by surprise: Broadcom has bought CA.
What now?!? Broadcom is making Chips, CA makes Enterprise Software. How does that go together?
That’s the question everyone is having right now. The Register even calls it the “Weirdest Akquisition Ever“.
I work as a partner with CA. And before that, I have worked with Automic as a partner. In this role, of course, I am a bit involved in the integration of Automic into the CA processes. This integration is not yet complete, some issues are still work in progress. And understandably not everything is working smoothly – sometimes even with effects on the customers. here is sometimes understandably still hooks – unfortunately sometimes even so that it affects customers. But more about that right now.
So we are not quite finished with one transition, and the next one is already on its way. Automic’s future remains exciting.
Here are the official press releases of the two companies to take over:
And here some news pieces that talk about how strange this deal is:
- TheStreet: Broadcom’s $18.9 Billion CA Technologies Deal Does — and Doesn’t — Make Sense
- Reuters: Chipmaker Broadcom inks $19 billion deal to buy software company CA
- Businessinsider: Broadcom’s $19 billion deal to buy ‘unloved’ CA Technologies shocked everyone and crushed the stock — here’s what they could be missing
Have fun reading the articles and discussing them with your colleagues 🙂
Problems with the CA Education Marketplace
In the process of integrating Automic into CA processes, all Automic trainings were added to the CA Education Marketplace. Trainings now have to be booked there.
Now I noticed that the Education Marketplace is not displayed correctly at my laptop (different browsers). And worse: Some of my clients are reporting the same issues.
At CA, they unluckily cannot retrace the error and are not able to solve it.
I want to get an estimate how big this problem really is and it would be great if you could help me out with that.
Please visit the Education Marketplace (e.g. here: https://marketplace.ca.com/education/86auw20081.html?country=DE) and tell me in the poll below, what the screenshot looks like for you.
Update: CA has now fixed this (on 2nd of August) and the marketplace should now be displayed correctly on all systems. Because of that, I have deactivated the poll. Thanks to all of you who participated or even left a comment.
